Date Bars

Yield: 24 bars

Ingredients:

1 cup dates
1 1/2 cups hot water
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
3/4 cup butter
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 3/4 cups flour
topping
1 cup nuts, `
1 cup butter scotch
1/2 cup white sugar

Directions:

1. Soak dates in hot water and soda.

2. Cool.

3. Cream butter, sugar and eggs.

4. Add date mixture and flour.

5. Topping:

6. Nuts

7. Butterscotch

8. Sugar

9. Bake in 13×9 pan for 1/2 hour at 350 degrees.

Notes:

Judging from the butter stains on the recipe card, she made this often.
I am not sure, however, if the topping is added before or after it is baked.
Any ideas? I am guessing it is added it goes into the oven.
