The name of the recipe comes from how the ingredients are added.
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
3 cups cake flour, measured after sifted
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 teaspoons soda
1. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
2. Beat in one egg at a time, then a cup of flour.
3. Then a little milk – add alternately until all flour and milk are mixed in.
4. Add baking powder, vanilla and dash salt.
5. Makes 3 layer or large sheet cake.
6. Bake 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
