This is one of my favorites!!

  • 1 cup dates, cut up
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 heaping tablespoons butter
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups flour
  • dash salt
  • ¾ cup walnuts
  • Frosting
  • 1 cup cream
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
Cake:

1. Mix dates, soda and boiling water together and allow to cool.

2. Blend butter with sugar, add eggs (well beaten) plus the salt, vanilla and date mixture. Mix in flour and nuts.
3. Pour in 9×13 pan or a bar pan, and bake 30 minutes (cake pan) or 20 minutes (bar pan).
Frosting:
1. Cook cream and brown sugar to softball stage. Add vanilla.
2. Beat with electric mixer until it forms ripples.
3. Spread on cake.
